App tip: Litterati

Today I would like to talk to you about an app. This app does not take up a lot of your time and actually helps you make a difference in this world!

The app
Litterati, available on Android and iPhone.

Website
http://www.litterati.org/

What it does
Basically, all you do is upload pictures of litter you have picked. That’s it! The app will then calculate totals for you, your country and worldwide. Every time you open the app, you will see the totals. This is also on the website.

If you tag the pictures, the app makers will be able to use the data. You can choose from suggested tags or add your own.

From litterati.org: “Geotags provide insight into problem areas, while keywords identify the most commonly found brands and products. This data will be used to work with companies and organizations to find more sustainable solutions.”

Why I downloaded it
For a long time, I was looking for ways to make a difference. I have found that litterpicking is a great way for me to do this. I am in no way picking litter hours a day, but have challenged myself to pick up one piece every day. I do this when I walk to the bus stop, to the office, to the shops. There is litter everywhere and oddly, there are also trash cans everywhere so I never have to walk far holding any rubbish. I was posting pictures to Instagram in the hopes of inspiring others. So when I heard about the app, it is just one extra step and it helps the cause.

Why you should download it
Get insights to the impact you make. I think it is also fascinating to see what types of litter are being picked around me and worldwide.

You can even join clubs, though you can’t interact in the app itself.

You can make a difference!

Do you ever pick up litter? Would you use an app like this to track?
